Certified ELA, Registered IEW

JULIA SCHMIDT

My name is Julia and I love the idea of Inspired Virtual’s value to teach students to become independent thinkers. I want to be a part of building this online community of students who will have the chance to form friendships with others across the country.

I am a qualified teacher with 23 years of classroom experience and one year of online teaching. I have my master’s in ESL and have taught English in the USA and internationally. I am a registered IEW teacher and am very excited to offer ELA courses on this platform. For me teaching children to write clearly is the basis for them to learn to think clearly, and this is a key part of education. I use the IEW curriculum as it provides a strong basis for all skills involved in language: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Teaching is my passion. Apart from English, I also teach Jewish education classes. When I am not doing that, I go mountain biking and rollerblading with my 10-year-old daughter, or cook interesting meals from around the world for my family. I live in North Carolina.

DANA AYRES

My name is Dana and I am so excited to be a part of Inspired Virtual. I love learning and I know how important it is for students to become life-long learners. I have been teaching elementary children for over 26 years in several different states and classroom settings. I earned my Master’s Degree in Education and Theory from Arkansas State University in 2015. I have been trained in the Science of Reading and my passion is teaching children to read fluently. I love teaching all subjects using themes and hands-on activities. I currently reside in southern Arkansas with my husband, John, and five children. Our oldest son just graduated from college. We adopted our other children six years ago and they are now 9, 8, and twin 7 year olds. We love to travel and go hiking together. I also enjoy taking time to read a good book.

Teacher

ERICA MARTIN

My name is Erica and I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with your students. I am a NYC teacher turned “homeschooling” mom to 3 children ages 3, 6 and 13.

I began my career in education teaching grades K-12 at a NYC private school. I then decided to pursue my master’s degree in secondary education and social studies. Upon receiving my masters I went on to teach U.S. History, AP U.S. History, Global History, and Government at a NYC public high school and later at a Catholic high school.

My family, like many families, transitioned to homeschooling in March 2020 and will continue to homeschool through the 2021-2022 school year.

I love homeschooling because I am able to witness the “lightbulb moments” and ensure that my children are becoming curious independent thinkers.

This platform provides the unique opportunity to take a subject like history and integrate it into the passions of our everyday life. We can learn history through gardening, cooking, music all while learning a new skill! I am so excited to extend the opportunity to experience history with the students here on Inspired Virtual!

MISS DELICIA

My name is Delicia and I love that Inspired Virtual is all about thinking independently.  I love to hear all of my students' thoughts, and I think it's important that they know how to back up their opinions. I have found that a lot of schools will teach students what to think instead of how to think. Inspired Virtual is a safe space where students are free to learn without biases in the classroom.

I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Eastern New Mexico University. After taking college-level classes throughout high school, I was able to graduate early in December of 2015.

My career began in banking, where I sharpened my people skills as well as my skills in math and finance. I really enjoyed banking, but I soon realized that although I could help people, it was very surface level. I had no means of truly educating the public in their basic financial literacy.

I have been working in education for a year, after taking a leap of faith and stepping away from my career in banking after many years. In January 2019, I began teaching ESL online to children in China ranging from 4-18 years old. I fell in love with teaching the little ones! I am certified to teach a range of subjects, including reading, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and free talk classes. Currently, I teach children all over the world, ages 3-18.

Parents have reached out to me for classes to prepare their students for the next grade level. I teach really fun game-show style classes that expose what the learners can improve on, while still being fun and building the learners' self esteem.
I believe teaching should not be limited to subjects found in a traditional classroom. There are so many more skills that will carry someone throughout life, that are much more impactful. I would love to teach what isn't taught in schools - people skills, finance, personal development, confidence, communication, etc.

JENNIFER WHITE

My name is Jen and I am looking forward to working with Inspired Virtual to create a positive homeschooling partnership between teachers, parents and students. I live in California and have my California Teaching Credential. I have worked in education for
over seventeen years, in public schools, a private parochial school and for an online charter school. My husband is currently working in a local elementary school as a classroom teacher. We just finished our sixth year of homeschooling. In addition to academic subjects, I also teach cooking and baking classes for kids, both online and in person.

During the summer I am busy teaching private swim lessons, water fitness classes and my favorite, in person weeklong baking and cooking camps. When I have free time I enjoy gardening, reading, camping, baking, sewing, crafting and decorating. We are currently
giving our new to us pop up camper a makeover.

It is my goal to teach students to become critical thinkers and effective communicators and to apply these skills not only to academics, but also to everyday life. It is my pleasure to work with your students and I look forward to meeting you.

NIKKI HODSDON

At the beginning of Nikki’s teaching journey about 20 years ago, she completed her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies Elementary Education K-8 in 2000 from the Master’s University. Since then, she has gone back to school for almost 2 years completing the extra educational classes needed to update her degree. In addition to a Bachelor’s degree, Nikki has her Teaching online certification as well as CBEST and Praxis exams. Nikki has also completed a Spanish language study and TEFL certification.

Spending a dozen years teaching in overseas South American public schools English as a second language along with her family, this has prepared her with an incredible multi-cultural experience. Because of this experience, she will be able to bring those adventures into the ‘online’ classroom. Some of her work experience includes: QKids, Outschool, Wyzant, public and private school in person teaching as a lead teacher as well as online tutoring.

From Nikki Hodsdon: I am so grateful to Inspired Virtual for the opportunity to work in an environment that helps students to achieve their learning goals through critical and independent thinking. Their philosophy of teaching and learning is on par with my goals and philosophies.

I am located in California in the pacific time zone. I have three children of my own that have been in all sorts of learning modes: online, hybrid, brick and mortar, homeschool, and overseas private schools. I understand how unique and engaging and interactive online teaching can be. And I hope to provide that for your students! My areas of expertise include: Grammar, Reading, Creative Writing, Phonics, Comprehension, and Literature. Fun activities include: baking, arts and crafts, and educational games.

SHANNON RABON

Hi! I am Shannon Rabon and I love teaching students to be creative and independent thinkers. Inspired Virtual is an ideal platform for teaching according to that philosophy. I am a former public-school Spanish and ESL teacher. I have been homeschooling my own children (ages 19, 17, 14 and 12) for the past 8 years and plan to graduate my youngest in 6 years. With my oldest daughter I did extensive research on how to qualify for and win scholarships.

My passions include history, literature, and the Spanish language. I love to study and watch anything about history. My favorite eras of study are the Renaissance, America 1620-1830, and the 20th century. I read widely, but I love to focus on young adult books and the lessons that students can learn from those novels. I have taught literature classes in the public school, to homeschool groups, and in online settings. I feel that students can learn so many lessons from novels of classic literature, historical fiction, biographies, and fantasy. In my literature classes I usually include works of literature from many different genres and life experiences. I believe that learning can be fun and inspiring! I teach with as many games and deep questions as possible. I want to students to think deeply, be inquisitive, and have a great time doing it!

Join me for literature and history classes that always combine depth and fun for a memorable experience for your student. When I am not teaching you will find me baking, reading a book, hanging out with my family, or walking my dogs. I live in beautiful South Carolina where the beach or the mountains are just a couple of hours away.
